I have been in Reno almost all my life, I feel like a Native Nevadan and love the Reno/Sparks area.  I am married to a fourth generation Native Nevadan with roots deep our community.  I believe in promoting local business, because local business is the back bone of our economy. Local small business and the people that invest their heart, time, money and sometimes their life savings in to it, are some of the most dedicated people I know.

Quality Bookkeeping, LLC became one of those local small businesses after I was laid off from a long time Bookkeeper/Office Manager position in 2012. After looking for another position for six months, my husband suggested starting my own bookkeeping business; after all, I love my work, and it’s what I have a passion for. The thought of taking the road to being a business owner again had not even crossed my mind, even after having owned two successful businesses earlier in life.

After 3 years of bookkeeping courses, college classes, and webinars, the dream of Quality Bookkeeping, LLC became a reality. That reality sparked a desire to help people understand how important a good bookkeeping system is to their business. Especially how a good system and bookkeeper can actually improve their personal life; providing them more time for themselves, friends, and especially their family!  I will sit down with you and go over your financial reports to explain what your reports tell you about your business and how your business is doing financially.

Honesty, integrity, quality, and attention to detail are what I believe make me stand out.  My clients are of the highest value to my business and myself, and I go above and beyond to make sure clients are happy.  My goal is to be the best bookkeeper I can through continuing education, expanding my knowledge base and offering services my clients need.

I have 25 plus years’ experience in bookkeeping and office management and am confident that my experience can make your time with Quality Bookkeeping, LLC a positive one.  We share a common goal after all, to grow your business and make the accounting process a positive experience.  I have heard too many horror stories of bookkeepers who badly damaged someone’s business financially, either through ignorance or extortion.  I can change that bad experience to a good one and show you the positive side of bookkeeping.

I sincerely hope you will give me and Quality Bookkeeping a chance to meet your bookkeeping needs. Quality Bookkeeping is Excellence in Bookkeeping!

Bookkeepers, Why Some Work Remote, Not On Site.

By Nadine Mickey

I’ve been asked several times why I work remote, and not on site at my client’s place of business.  There’s actually several reasons why.  I usually answer this question with a question: Where are all of the tools you need to do your work? At your place of business or in your office, right? Well, that’s where all of my tools are as well.
I have custom computer equipment I do my work on, reference materials, specialized spread sheets on my computer to help factor taxes, or reference books for specialized General Journal entries.  Not to mention the files for each client I use and refer back to when doing month, quarterly, or year end.  There’s a ten key I use frequently, for factoring percentages of numbers, adding up employee hours and factoring over time correctly.  The ten key gets used for just about everything to do with bookkeeping and accounting.  A ten key to a Bookkeeper or Accountant is a very personal thing.  You get attached to a specific ten key and cannot work on any other. I’ve been packing my ten key around for the last 18 years. It is a primary tool to me. I can certainly take my laptop with me to a client site but, I can’t pack the ten key, reference books, and client file in to my satchel. It won’t all fit!

In my office I have a 30 inch monitor to make working easier on my eyes.  Looking at a monitor all day can take a toll on your vision! Every Accountant I know, has very large monitors just for this reason. You see, many of us work remotely because our tools are specialized or customized to us, and what we use to make our living.  Just as your tools are at your place of business, our tools are at our place of business.  I carry special liability insurances to be able to work from my office, I also have special programs on my computer to prevent hacking.  All of these are tools I use to do people’s books. It’s so very important that my clients books are done correctly!

I have a college education, licenses, and certifications because I care about my clients and continue my education regarding bookkeeping and accounting. It’s required by the ATTC to have a specific number of continuing education credits a year to maintain licenses and certifications. You can find a bookkeeper who will go to your place of business and do your books, there’s still many that do.  Those of us that specialize in bookkeeping from A to Z, use our own equipment, in our own office.  You wouldn’t expect your CPA or Accountant to try and do their job at your office.  Your CPA isn’t going to go to your place of business to do your taxes, at least none that I know of anyway.  Their tools are at their office, therefore they work there.  Just as I work at my office, with my own tools.

There are so many cloud based accounting programs that allow the bookkeeper to access the clients account and work behind the scenes, there’s no point in working on site.  Even the programs that we use to log in remotely to your computer to work on your account, are very safe programs.  I have several clients that use their computer throughout their work day, it isn’t feasible for me to be logged in to their computer or at their place of business to do their bookkeeping.  Those clients move to a cloud based service, which enables me to take care of their bookkeeping without interrupting their day.

Next time you meet a Bookkeeper that tells you they work remotely and not on site remember this, their tools are at their place of business.  The tools they need to do your books and make sure your account is taken care of, is at their office.   There’s always fewer errors because of less interruptions when working in your own office, rather than someone else’s.  In our business errors can cost our clients a lot of money, therefore it’s best if we work where we have our own tools and are comfortable.

Thank you and have a great day!
